Purpose
To promote research and publication. The award was established in 1980 to recognize Vernon Carstensen's services to agricultural history by his former students.
Vernon Carstensen served as editor of Agricultural History from 1953 to 1957 and as president of the Agricultural History Society from 1957 to 1958. Further information is available on request.

Open to any author who has been published in the quarterly journal of Agricultural History during the calendar year.
