Tachau Teacher of the Year Award
Awarded by Organization of American Historians (OAH)
Purpose
To recognize the contributions made by precollegiate and classroom teachers to improve history education.
Eligibility
Applicants must be precollegiate teachers engaged at least half time in history teaching, with exceptional ability in initiating projects that involve students in historical research. They should also demonstrate ability in working with museums, historical preservation societies or other public history associations, and in publishing or presenting scholarship that advances education or knowledge.

Award Value
US$500, a one-year OAH membership, a one-year subscription to the OAH Magazine of History and a complimentary registration for the annual meeting. If the winner is an OAH member, the award will include a one-year renewal of membership in the awardee's name.

The Organization of American Historians (OAH) was founded in 1907 as the Mississippi Valley Historical Association and originally focused on the history of the Mississippi Valley. Now, national in scope and with approx. 11,000 members and subscribers, it is a large professional organization created and sustained for the investigation, study and teaching of American history.
