NIGMS Research Project Grants (R01)
To support a discrete project related to the investigator's area of interest and competence.
Research project grants may be awarded to nonprofit organisations and institutions; governments and their agencies; occasionally, though rarely, to individuals who have access to adequate facilities and resources for conducting the research; and to profit-making organisations. Foreign institutions and international organisations are also eligible to apply for these grants.
These grants may provide funds for reasonable costs of the research activity, as well as for salaries, equipment, supplies, travel and other related expenses

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) is one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the principal biomedical research agency of the Federal Government. NIGMS primarily supports basic biomedical research that lays the foundation for advances in disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
