LBI/DAAD Fellowships for Research in the Federal Republic of Germany

To provide financial assistance to doctoral students conducting research for their dissertation and to academics in the preparation of a scholarly essay or book.
The fellowship holders must agree to submit a brief report on their research activities upon conclusion of their fellowship. These awards are in conjunction with awards offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in New York, United States of America. Please see the website for further details external link.
Applicants must be citizens of the United States of America and PhD candidates or recent PhDs who have received their degrees within the preceding 2 years.
A monthly stipend of approximately €1,000, health insurance and a flat rate subsidy for travel costs (US East: €775/West: 1,000).
Applicants must submit an application form, a curriculum vitae and a full description of the research project. Doctoral students must submit official transcripts of graduate and undergraduate work, written evidence that they are enrolled in a PhD programme and two letters of recommendation, one by their doctoral adviser and one by another scholar familiar with the work. Postdoctoral candidates must submit evidence of their degree, of which transcripts are not required, and two letters of recommendation from two colleagues familiar with their research.
