To provide support and assistance for young scholars to complete their dissertation and later to advance their research after being awarded the PhD.
Open to scholars who hold the Dissertation Completion Fellowships of any nation. Candidates must be in the final year of dissertation completion at the time of application. Those who have completed the dissertation are not eligible. Candidates for this program must be PhD. candidates in a humanities or social science department in the United States. Candidates from other departments may be eligible if their project is in the humanities or related social sciences, and their principal dissertation advisor holds an appointment in a humanities or related social science field.
The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) is a private non-profit federation of 68 national scholarly organizations. The mission of the ACLS, as set forth in its Constitution is the advancement of humanistic studies in all fields of learning in the humanities and the social sciences and the maintenance and strengthening of relations among the national societies devoted to such studies.
