Title VIII Southeast European Language Training Program
Purpose
The American Councils Southeast European Language training program offers academic year, semester and summer programs for independent language study in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Kosovo and Serbia.
Fellowships provide: full tuition at major university or educational institution in Southeastern Europe, international round trip airfare from the fellow's home city to host city, a monthly living and housing stipend, health insurance of upto $50,000 per accident or illness, Visa support as necessary, graduate-level academic credit through Bryn Mawr College for programmes providing 7 weeks or more of full-time instruction, ongoing logistical support from American Councils offices throughout the region. Applications sent through fax or email will not be considered.
Eligibility
Open to students at the MA and PhD level, as well as postdoctoral scholars and faculty who have at least elementary language skills. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.

Application procedure
Applicants must plan to study for at least one month in the region. Study trips for periods of 4-9 months are particularly encouraged. Applicants should explain how their plans for language-study support their overall research goals. A wide range of interests and research goals have received support each year, all funded research must contribute to a body of knowledge enabling the US policy makers to better understand the region.
