Applicants must be nominated. The committee will entertain articles from any individual, including eligible authors who are encouraged to nominate their own articles. Nominations should include the name of the author, the title of the article and the name and year of the periodical or other collection in which it was published. A curriculum vitae is also required.

The American Musicological Society (AMS) was founded in 1934 as a non-profit organization, with the aim of advancing research in the various fields of music as a branch of learning and scholarship. In 1951, the Society became a constituent member of the American Council of Learned Societies.
