Purpose
The scholarship is intended to support candidates whose research is in the spirit of Ruth First's life and work, poses difficult social questions, and links knowledge and politics and scholarship and action.
Eligibility
For Masters or PhD study and black South African or Mozambican women candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Application procedure
Applicants to submit a letter of motivation (2 pages or more) as to why they would be a potentially suitable candidate for this award and how their proposed research will be within the spirit of Ruth First's work. In addition, an academic transcript, academic curriculum vitae and a copy of an identity document is required.
