Open to accomplished practitioners of the performing arts of India and creative artists who demonstrate that study in India would enhance their skills, develop their capabilities to teach or perform in the United States of America, enhance American involvement with India's artistic traditions and strengthen their links with peers in India.

The American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS) is a consortium of American colleges and universities that supports the understanding of India, its people and cultures. AIIS offers a range of fellowships for research in India. It also supports individuals studying the performing arts, operates language programmes in India and offers research facilities to scholars in India.
