Awarded by State Library of New South Wales
To encourage the highest standards of writing in the fields of biography and autobiography and to promote public interest in biography and autobiography.

The author must be a living Australian citizen or hold permanent resident status. The work must be classified as either biography or autobiography, be written in the English language, published in book form and consist of a minimum of 50,000 words.
All nominations must be made on the appropriate form and be accompanied by an entry fee of Australian $55 to be eligible for consideration. Five copies of the nominated work must be submitted. A separate form must be completed for each nomination. See state library of NSW website external link

The Library consists of the State Reference Library and the Mitchell Library, which contains the renowned Australian research collections pertaining to the history of Australia and the Southwest Pacific region.
